Welcome,

New Start Counselling was founded in 2000 by Karen Stainsby and May Worthington.  With 46 years of counselling experience and clinical practice to draw upon, we offer a comprehensive counselling service for a wide range of difficulties and concerns.  

People come to counselling for many different reasons. There are times when life feels unsatisfactory or perhaps overwhelmingly difficult; when we are stuck, confused and don’t know where to turn. We often wish that we could make a new start but don’t know how to go about it. Talking to a counsellor can be very different from talking to a friend or relative. A New Start counsellor will listen to you without making judgments, helping you to explore your concerns and difficulties in a confidential setting. We don’t give advice but will help you to find your own inner strengths, resources and solutions. We will use our theoretical knowledge, skills and experience to help you to make choices and sort out problems, leading you to a richer, more meaningful life.

New Start offers short and longer term counselling for adults during daytime and some evenings. We accept referrals from individuals, counsellors, GPs, EAP schemes, social workers support workers, Human Resource departments, managers, self-help groups and any other interested organisations. We also offer other services such as supervision, training and mentoring.
